Swirling about, letting the petals drift.
Touching upon your cheek briefly, an upturned touch of scarlet.
Floating, drifting, swimming along
the current, the present, the now.

I throw out a eager hand, and pluck a single petal from the air, inhaling the simplicity.
A brush stroke, carelessly flung upwards on pale parchment without a care.
One of million that encircle my closed mind,
Enticing me to accompany them in harmonizing a crimson symphony.

I can join the multitudes roaming the land, forever enthralled, never settling.
Or let the petal escape into unforgiving wind, and never again hold the same petal.

Ripping me open, consuming me with fury.

The sincere smile that rushes to my visage when I see you.

The small leap that sends tinges shivering down my spine.

And the sadness that pours through my being, knowing the distance that sets us apart.

I swore to be a knight, serving you with my blade, protecting you with my shield.

And with this, I bound myself to the whims and webs of fate.

I turn my head away, sheathing my pride and covering my heart.

Knowing that while you are forever in my heart, that I’ll never be in yours.

Knowing that while I remain a mere loyal, silent, knight, I cannot hope for a miracle.

I cannot hope to change the past, and right what I had done wrong.

I cannot endeavor to throw myself into the pit of fire where countless souls have fled in vain.

But I will win you over.

Listen, as I call your name, gazing up at the vast night sky, with the stars in clear sight.

Maybe you will never hear my faint call.

But we will always be looking wistfully at the same sky.

I have a lot to thank you for.

From the second this trip started, I knew I was in trouble. I had no friends to hang out with. The bus ride to the airport took forever, with an empty seat for company.

As we arrived at the airport terminal, I sat down, alone. Everyone was in their little niche, chatting, having fun, while I sat there, alone.

But you came up to me, out of nowhere.

“Wanna play cards with us?”

The rest of the wait passed so quickly.

You were always trying to look out for me from that point on. You insisted that I hung out with your group of people, whom were all my fellow seniors (and all guys, too.)

Whenever we had dinner as a group, you made sure I was not left out. When we went shopping, you always checked to make sure I was still there. Because of you, I was able to have the fun that I previously would have never had.

I never thought it possible to know a person so nice.

You helped me to understand that by being nice to a person, you really can brighten up their day.

You not only did that - but you also changed me, and turned me into a different person.

On the final night, I felt inspired to make a speech to the group as a whole. Me - a loner!

I had stood up, and talked about how I thought that the whole trip would be a fiasco for me.

Other people had eventually cottoned on, and had started to try to include me by then, but you were the spark that lit the fire.

The entire time though, as I spoke, I thought of your kindness, and your generosity. You had given me the courage to speak.

Even after the speech, when I had a incredible stomach ache, you were the only person out of 34 people (even the teachers!) who came after me, asking if I was alright. And even after that, you had shown up at my room door with medicine, having seen through my transparent lie of how I was feeling ok.

Thank you for stepping out of your comfort zone and taking the time to make me feel better.

Thank you for being the person who showed me the true gifts of kindness seldom seen.

And most of all, thank you because I know how hard it is for a popular girl to be kind to a guy like me.

I am forever in your debt.
